Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October 1964, is a prominent American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice president , and the most powerful female official in U.S. history, as also the first African American and first Asian American vice president. Harris is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition she served as an United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Her career began with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected as the city's district attorney. In 2010, Harris was appointed Attorney General for California. She was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez during the 2016 Senate elections to become the second African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to serve as senator in the United States Senate. She was a senator and advocated for healthcare reform as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling an opportunity to become a citizen for immigrants who are not legally documented and the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. She earned national attention due to her sharp questioning of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings, including Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who was accused of sexual assault.
